Before applying to any charity you should ensure that you are receiving all of the state benefits to which you are entitled. Most charities will not give a grant unless they are satisfied that you are receiving, or have applied for, all benefits to which you are entitled. There are many sources of advice such as these below.
Turn2us is an independent charity which helps people to access benefits and/or grants. They have a free to access website which includes a benefit checker and a guide to grants.
The CAB can give advice on benefits and managing debt and have local branches in many areas where you can speak to an advisor face to face - you will need to ring your local branch to make an appointment - see Yellow Pages. They can advise you on how to budget and how to agree manageable repayments on your debts.
They have a website with lots of advice on work, benefits, debts etc. which can be found at www.adviceguide.org.uk The CAB may also be able to advise you on where to apply for grant funding.
